5 energy-boosting hacks.

I am loving the change of season here in South-East Queensland. Finally, the nights are cooler, the days are less humid, and today it is raining, for what feels like the first time in months.

With this change comes a general feeling of snooziness and a noticeable decline in my energy levels. I feel like I’m dragging myself around, and that I could happily spend hours on the couch with a good book or binging Netflix.

Of course, if I’m honest, I can’t blame the seasonal change for these feelings. They have a lot more to do with some bad energy-sucking habits sneaking in. You know the ones. Going to bed later than usual. Drinking a bit more alcohol than usual. Working through lunch. It’s no surprise my Oura Ring stats have been shocking over recent weeks.

I’m reassessing a few of my behaviours and taking time to reflect on the last quarter, so that I can put some good habits back in place, reduce those pesky feelings of exhaustion and overwhelm, and return to my more energised self.

Feeling the same? Here are my 5 energy-boosting hacks:

  1. Prioritise quality sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night and create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet.

  2. Drink enough water throughout the day to stay hydrated and energised. If you don’t like plain water, try herbal tea (Pukka have some of my favourites), or adding fruit or mint to your water to give it a subtle flavour. Swap a coffee or alcoholic drink for a glass of water.

  3. Take regular short breaks throughout the day to recharge, stretch, and move around. Ideally try and move every 30-40 minutes, even if it’s only taking a few steps away from your desk to walk around your workspace.

  4. Take a proper lunch break away from your desk, and eat a bit of protein and some fruit / veg. Even a quick 20 minute break can make a big difference.

  5. Practice self-care: Make time for at least one activity a day that makes you feel good – for me it’s reading a novel or having a walk on the beach.

Prioritising self-care will go a long way towards helping you boost your short and long term energy levels.

How do you boost your energy? I’d love to know.
