Take time to be in the moment this holiday season

I'm writing this in my favourite cafe after having a quick swim on a ridiculously hot morning.

It's 31c (at 10.30am!) and the beach is pumping with kids, grandparents and a few parents who are already on holiday.

It's absolutely beautiful to see so many happy people, obviously loving life right now.

I am especially reflective about why we need to live life and enjoy as many moments as possible, as this week marks nine years since I was diagnosed with a level 2 melanoma. You can read about it here and here.

Surviving a cancer that would have killed me had I not had it checked as soon as I noticed a dodgy spot taught me a lot. (You can read about some of those lessons here).

It's a sobering reminder that life is short, and it can be snatched away from you at any time.

As many of us take an end-of-year break, I'd like to issue you a challenge for this time.

Spend time in the many moments you will have with the people you love - and those who drive you to distraction!

By this, I mean put your phone down, listen to the conversations that flow around you and ask questions that will help you get to know your loved ones more.

Take time to be grateful for what you have, the life you live and the people who love you.
