How are you standing in your own way?

Earlier this week I went live on LinkedIn and Facebook, for the first time in a VERY LONG TIME.

I was motivated after attending a masterclass with Bob Heilig, where he attributed some of his significant business success to going live on Instagram A LOT.

It was not the first time I had heard about the benefits of video, and specifically live video, on social media.

It was also not the first time I thought “I really should do this”.

And let’s face it, I’ve done a fair bit of video over the years – pre-recorded and live both for TV, events and social media. I’m not scared of being in front of the camera.

But something was holding me back.

Somewhat ironically, this week in the current Thriving Leaders cohort we are talking about confidence, assertiveness and, yep, getting out of our own way.

It was time.

I went live.

And guess what?

I survived.

It made me realise that so often, in the pursuit of our goals and dreams, the most formidable obstacle often isn't external forces or challenges – it's ourselves.

To quote Taylor Swift, “It's me, hi, I'm the problem, it's me”.

We build mental barriers, succumb to self-doubt, and let fear of failure hold us back. It's time to recognise that our greatest adversary is often the person staring back at us in the mirror.

We let fear of failure, lack of confidence, overwhelm, negative self-talk, procrastination, perfectionism, peer pressure, bad experiences or a lack of accountability take over and create a barrier to our success.

Taking action and getting out of our own way is the key to unleashing our true potential.

It is only when we overcome self-doubt, seize opportunities and get out of our comfort zone, that we open the door to a world of possibilities and unlock the truest version of ourselves.

So, let's take that step, one courageous stride at a time, toward a brighter, more successful future.

Are you with me?
