5 ways to fuel your focus.

My first foray into podcasting, many years ago, was with The Activity Pod, a now-defunct podcast where we helped our listeners stay focused so they could get stuff done.

One of the first questions we asked all our guests was, 'How do you fit everything in?'

Unsurprisingly, most answers had something to do with having clear priorities, a well-thought-out plan, and solid processes.

Maintaining focus is the key to unlocking your true potential and achieving what you want from life.

While I’m sure you recognise the importance of focus, do you take the necessary action to create the right environment to allow you to focus?

Try these 5 steps if you need to fuel your focus:

  1. Know your priorities and set clear, specific, and achievable goals and intentions so you have purpose and direction.

  2. Have an action plan to help prioritise tasks based on importance and deadlines. Use your plan to break larger tasks into smaller steps to make them less daunting.

  3. Eliminate distractions and focus on one task at a time.

  4. Ensure you have good self-care practices around nutrition, sleep, exercise and taking regular breaks to allow for maximum cognitive function and productivity.

  5. Establish rhythms and routines that signal to your brain that it's time to focus. Consistency can train your mind to be more alert and attentive during specific periods.

Working out what you need to fuel your focus might take some time so experiment with these suggestions and identify what works best for you.

If you need some support, especially in the goal setting and planning stages, you might be interested in my half-day online planning workshop on 5 December.

I’ll be sharing the process I have been using for almost 20 years, where I sit down and review my core priorities for the year ahead, based on six key areas.

At the end of the workshop you will have:

  • A personalised plan for 2024, focusing on six key areas of work and life

  • Strategies to cut through distractions and define YOUR clear focus areas

  • Confidence to set intentions, create rituals, and become an action-taker so you can achieve your goals

  • A set of clear actions for your next quarter

  • And much more!
